Six Flags Great America Fright Fest!

So this past Sunday, October the 15th, thanks to a good friend of mine and her sister, I was able to attend our local Six Flag's annual Fright Fest! We went in the afternoon, rode some amazing roller coasters, which I have ridden MANY times; I am no stranger to this park, these roller coasters, OR Fright Fest. I've been going here since I was a kid and have ridden a lot of these coasters since I was as young as 6 years old. Some of these roller coasters in the park are even OLDER than I am! Shocking, right? The park itself opened in 1976, and I was born in 1981. Anyways, we got there around 2 p.m. or so and the first roller coaster we rode was Viper, a feisty wooden coaster that opened in 1995, and we were delighted to discover that it was running BACKWARDS!!! Riding a roller coaster backwards is such a neat experience!
This beauty right here is Giant Drop (Very original name, right? Nice job, Six Flags. *sarcasm*), which is another favorite of mine, but I do have a love/hate relationship with this one! I tend to have full-on panic attacks on this one before we even start going up, but this time I didn't! In fact, what I did do at the very top was extend my arms and legs straight out so when we dropped I came right up out of my seat and it felt like I was completely weightless! It was amazing! 10/10!
This behemoth is Goliath and when it came out in 2014 it broke THREE World Records! It's 180 ft. tall and its first drop is a staggering 85 degree angle! I've never experienced a drop like that in my LIFE! Definitely a life-changing experience if you love roller coasters! It also has 2 inversions which is very rare but not unheard of now-a-days on a wooden roller coaster as they are becoming more and more popular! What's more incredible is that on this coaster you are NOT given an over-the-shoulder-harness, ONLY a lap bar! But don't worry, you feel VERY safe, even safe enough to put your hands up on the inversions while you're upside-down!
Now THIS is my home park's newest coaster, The Joker. This thing is a 32-second nightmare, HAHA! No, but really, it was fun, short and sweet. And violent! You go up at a 90-degree angle and then all hell literally breaks loose. You flip and flop head over heels, and then you drop and flip and flop some more and you feel like you're going to die and this goes on for literally 32 seconds and you're back in the station feeling like you've just gone through a vertical blender. That's the best way I can describe this ride. You don't have time to think about what's happening after you've gone up the lift. The Joker doesn't play!
Batman!!! This one's a classic and is at many Six Flags parks! This is a crazy ride from start to finish and I usually come off this one with a headache but I think it's worth it. I always feel very dizzy and disoriented when we pull back into the station because the whole ride is twists and turns and hey, you're inverted! But, again, it's Batman! How can you resist?!
Our last ride of the night was X-Flight! This coaster was the first of its kind in the USA, the second of its kind in the WORLD (Italy had the first one). It is a winged coaster with its cars on either side of the track and I swear it's the smoothest ride I've EVER been on! Thrilling, yes! Smooth, yes! I've had friends and family who don't even like coasters get on this thing and enjoy it because of the fact that it doesn't ride like a regular roller coaster and the seats and restraints are so comfortable and you literally feel so good and safe and you feel like you're flying! This is a remarkable addition to the park for sure!!
Thanks so much once again for reading another entry to my blog! There will be more to come as I do have more ideas for more topics for future blogs!
